Oxford has just crowned "Rizz" as the Word of the Year for 2023.
But hold up, what's "Rizz"? Rizz is internet slang for romantic appeal, charm or charisma. "Rizz" shot to popularity after actor Tom Holland used it earlier in the year in an interview where he said he had no Rizz.
The word was chosen by a public vote from among eight finalists selected by Oxford Languages lexicographers to reflect the ethos, mood, or preoccupations of the past 12 months. The other finalists were "prompt," "situationship," "de-influencing" and "Swiftie."
In 2022, the word of the year was "goblin mode," a colloquial term for behavior that is self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.
What do you think of the word of the year? Do you have Rizz?
